	You have probably noticed that Vitamin D has been getting a lot of press lately in the media and health journals. It is well known and established that Vitamin D is necessary for supporting strong bones and teeth. It is also established that Vitamin D is necessary for good absorption of certain minerals. Now, research is indicating that this nutrient is important for a lot of other critical body functions. Our best source of Vitamin D has always been sunshine, however the use of sunscreen can limit the amount of Vitamin D actually absorbed from the sun. Cloudy, rainy climates also add limitations. Cod liver oil can also be a good source, though you have to read the label to be sure. All cod liver oils are not the same. Individuals who do not get sufficient sun exposure and do not take cod liver oil have to resort to fortified foods for their Vitamin D intake. Cereals and dairy products are fortified to some degree, but individuals on a CF/GF diet will miss out much of that fortification. Kirkman recommends looking up this recent research on the internet so you can determine if you and your family may need to supplement with additional Vitamin D. Kirkman offers hypoallergenic Vitamin D-3 (Cholecalciferol) Capsules in 400 International Units (IU), 1000 IU’s, and has now added a new 2000 IU product. The 100% recommended daily value for this nutrient is 400 IU, though scientific evidence is mounting that many individuals need much more than that. Check with your physician to determine if your family is getting adequate Vitamin D supplementation. A lab test is available to check your levels.
