and Benefits of Detox-Aid Advanced Formula
In the Spring of 2007, Kirkman Laboratories asked me to
develop a formulation that should enhance a special needs
child's ability to detoxify. For quite a while now, we've all
been concerned about toxic stressors besides mercury, Thimerosal and viruses, which might induce or worsen some developmental disorders. In fact, there is mounting evidence that various pesticides
and flame-retardant chemicals can have severe detrimental
effects. From published studies, I've found that these toxic substances (organophosphates, for example) can disrupt the same body chemistry that mercury does. Besides that, recent clinical studies with special needs children show molecular and genetic links between certain disorders and this same chemistry-gone-wrong. The result may be brain damage to infants and children at a time in life when neuronal development is supposed to bring about integrative thought and expressive speech.
For eleven years, during the 1980s-90s, I was on the teaching faculty of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. It was then that I learned about calcium glucarate's ability to assist the body's detox efforts. In the intestinal tract, glucarate acts to keep many substances in the safe, detoxified forms that the liver produced and shipped out via the bile. Without glucarate, intestinal organisms could undo the liver's detox efforts and release some very reactive, dangerous substances.
We've all heard about glutathione (GSH) and the amino acid N-acetylcysteine that promotes GSH formation inside cells. Glutathione does a lot more than remove mercury from cells. Besides being a major antioxidant, GSH works to detoxify many environmental toxicants that are pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, solvents and petrochemicals.
Taurine, a special sulfur amino acid, is made in the body as an end product of the metabolic process that gives us cysteine. Taurine is both an antioxidant and a detoxifier. It scavenges hypochlorite and protects cells from chlorine exposures that a child might encounter with household detergents and bleach or from swimming pools. Even more important, taurine allows the immune system's cellular police to oxidize germs and toxins with minimal cellular damage.
Turmeric, a natural herb and powerful antioxidant, is reported to increase the same detoxication mechanism that glucarate protects. Turmeric and glucarate are synergistic. One (turmeric) helps to wrap up the cell's garbage, while the other (glucarate) keeps it wrapped until it's hauled away.
While all this is going on, we need to protect the liver form toxin exposure and oxidant damage, which is what milk thistle extract assists with. And we need to protect the flora population in the intestinal tract, which is what olive leaf extract helps us do.
In summary, Detox-Aid Advanced Formula is a coordinated set of nutrients that work together as a team and that have well-documented benefits. I think the ever-worsening maze of environmental pollutants has caught up with us, and we need a Detox-Aid to help.
