Description:
Taurine
is a sulfur-containing amino acid that acts as a neurotransmitter,
has antioxidant properties and is needed for proper bilary
function. Taurine is abundant in the tissues of the central
nervous system and plays a calming role as a neurotransmitter
by counteracting the stimulatory effect of glutamate.
Taurine
has a very important antioxidant function in white blood
cells, leukocytes and lymphocytes. These cells are important
in protecting the body from foreign substances and invading
organisms.
Taurine
is needed to form a key component of bile, taurocholic acid.
Proper bile formation is very necessary for the absorption
of essential lipids from the digestive tract. Bile forms
water-oil emulsions of dietary lipids, allowing for the
absorption of the fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K,
as well as essential fatty acids.
Taurine
deficiency can be measured in the laboratory, often occurring
when individuals are on a restricted diet.
Kirkman's
Taurine capsules are part of the hypoallergenic product
line which contain no known allergens and are made with
capsule shells made of plant cellulose (pine), instead of
the traditional animal gelatin shell.
