INTRODUCTION
Kirkman
Laboratories is pleased to be a distributor of the
well-researched and documented probiotic supplement,
Culturelle™ , as part of our expanded line of probiotics.
Culturelle™ is manufactured by Amerifit Inc.
The initial research on this Lactobacillus rhamnosus
(subspecies of L. casei ) strain was undertaken
by two Boston scientists, Dr.'s Sherwood Gorbach
and Barry Golden. They isolated this strain, which
they called Lactobacillus GG (LGG after their surnames),
in 1985 and it received a patent in the US in 1987.
A
number of conditions can upset the delicate balance
of the health promoting probiotic bacteria in the
gastrointestinal tract. These friendly flora can
be adversely affected by use of antibiotics or other
medications, improper nutrition, stress, contact
with a foreign bacteria during travel or the presence
of chronic disease states. These environmental factors
adversely affect the intestinal flora's delicate
balance, resulting in significantly decreased numbers
of these bacteria. Use of friendly flora like Lactobacillus
GG can support gastrointestinal health and functioning.
DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT
Each
Culturelle™ capsule contains a guaranteed 10 billion
colony-forming units (CFUs). Culturelle™ is manufactured
in a size #1 vegetable based capsule and is in a
chicory root base called inulin.
Capsules
are individually wrapped in a double-foil blister
pack and sealed with nitrogen to provide stability.
Culturelle™ is available in a cardboard box with
six foil wrapped strips, each containing 5 capsules.
The capsules can be easily dispensed by gently pressing
the capsule through the underside of the foil strip
and taking as directed.
Kirkman
recommends storing Culturelle™ at refrigerated temperatures.
Although the product may be maintained at room temperature,
storing it under refrigeration can extend the stability
of the product. Culturelle™ is formulated without
sugar, yeast, sodium or preservatives.
Lactobacillus CG is grown on whey
and will contain trace levels (less than 15 parts
per million per capsule) of casein and whey, which
are proteins found in milk.
RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION
Culturelle™
with LGG has been widely studied and documented
to provide many health promoting benefits in the
intestinal tract including:
Adults:
Take 1 or 2 capsules daily and /or as recommended
by a medical practitioner. Children: Take ½
to 1 capsule or as recommended by a medical practitioner.
For young children less than 30 pounds take ½
capsule mixed in with a food or beverage. The single-strain
Culturelle™ may be recommended by a practitioner
to maintain healthy bacteria in the GI tract.
The
capsule may be swallowed whole or opened and the
contents mixed with food or beverages. For optimal
results probiotics may be taken with meals and/or
the contents of the capsules mixed in and taken
with cool or tepid liquids. Avoid taking with hot
beverages as this may adversely affect the potency
of these live friendly flora.
Culturelle™
offers another alternative choice in probiotic supplementation.
It can be used alone or in combination with Kirkman's
Pro-Bio Gold™ (or other multi-flora probiotic supplements)
for comprehensive replacement of a full spectrum
of friendly flora for the entire intestinal tract.
